Memorial Day services in honor of soldiers killed in action are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Puna Hongwanji Mission in Keaau and Hakalau Jodo Mission.

Puna Hongwanji invites the community to honor Puna District veterans in the Centennial Memorial Garden fronting the temple in Keaau.

The Hawaii County Band, led by Band Master Paul Arceo, will perform at 9:45 a.m. There will be a prelude before the service.

Guest speaker will be state Sen. Kaiali‘i Kahele.

All families, relatives and friends of the veterans from the Puna District who were killed in action are encouraged to attend.

Various organizations also were invited to join the event.

Veterans to be honored:

World War II

Stanley Cabral, Yuzo Hayashida, John Hermandez, Seiji Higa, Isamu Kanetani, Yutaka Kawamoto, Morio Mizumoto, Frank Mugihira, Shoichi Nakahara, Tadao Nakamura Mitsuru Ochiai, Eishin Oshiro, Seikichi Oshiro, Kazumi Tsutsui and Alfred Veriato.

Korean Conflict

David Aspili, Julio Figueroa, Yoshimi Fukumoto, Isacc K. Hale, Koichi Moriwaki, Wilson Park and Paul K. Ura.

Vietnam Conflict

Moses I. Kuahiwinui Jr., George G Luis, Gilbert Olivar, Hayward K. Peleioholani and George S. Salema.

Iraq-Afghanistan Conflict

Ray M.J. Fuhrmann II.

Hakalau Jodo Mission invites people in the Hamakua area to join it at the same time (10 a.m.) at the Veterans Ball Park in a service to honor fallen soldiers.

Guest speakers will be veterans, who will share the experiences that shaped their lives. They will be guided by emcee Akiko Masuda

Onso Chinen, Hiroyuki Hiramoto, Isamu Ikeda, Yasuo Kaneshiro, Yoshitaka Kataoka, Satoshi Matsuoka, Toshiaki Morimoto, Hiroshi Motoishi, Saburo Nakazato, Masayoshi Ogata , Eishun Soken and Ronald K. Takara.

Korean Conflict

Refreshment will be served after the service at Hakalau Jodo Mission’s dining room. The mission is located at 28-2271 Old Mamalahoa Highway.
